MBABANE – There were major surprises in Sunday’s Shooting Competition at Mzimpofu Shooting Range as the usual big guns in the sport were sidelined this time around.

The likes of respected shottists, Nhlanhla Sithole and Appollo Ngwenya, were stunned out of the top three and among some of those who did well enough to eliminate them, was the sport’s ardent shottist, Prince Bandzile. He came third at the end of the competition in the males’ section, which was won by Sandile Simelane, who scored 236 points, five ahead of the prince who settled at 231. In second place was Fana Ngozo, who scored 232 points.

Winning the ladies’ section was Thulile Dlamini with 210 points and she was followed by Temakholo Matsebula on 197 points.
“Prince Bandzile showed tremendous improvement and got a good finish overall. There was a major shake-up in the tournament in as far as the results were concerned,” said Swaziland Rifle Association President William Kelly.

The renowned best performers, Sithole and Ngwenya, finished on an overall 6th and 10th place respectively. Sithole played out to 226 points while Ngwenya finished on 215.
