MBABANE – Sack them or not but Manzini Wanderers captain and defender Lwazi ‘Shana’ Maziya is adamant that the current squad did its best despite the final log standing.

He was responding to the supporters who on Saturday during their meeting at the Manzini Library called for the sacking of 80 per cent of the current squad, effectively meaning about 20 of the 28 registered players.

“We respect their opinions and wish the team the best in the upcoming season with any selection of players they will have.
“The current squad did its best and would like nothing more than the team to do better next season,” Maziya said.

He was adamant that they played well but were so unlucky in so many games for which consequence was the poor log standing in the end.
“I am not entitled to comment on the supporters’ opinions, they are entitled to them because they love the team. The players are contracted in a certain way by the team after a set out selection process.  If the management of the day decides to take this into consideration then it’s up to them,” he said.

He explained that players’ contracts were individual with clear terms of termination from either side so like every season, the management and the coach will decide who they need and who they do not need and negotiations are started. He also added that he was not certain that these feelings represented all the club’s supporters or a minority. Rightly so, over 70 supporters attended the meeting yet Wanderers are one of the biggest crowd pullers in the country.
