‘XAVI’ HIT THE BALL AHEAD OF ME’
Times: What is your analysis of the 2014/2015 season, both for the team and personally?
Chocco: I would say that the team did all it could and we tried our best with a relatively new squad as most of our players were new at the team. We must keep the same team for next season, and avoid letting key players go unless they are surplus to requirements, and then we must add more players. Personally, it was a great season for me. I would say it was my best season at Mbabane Highlanders.
You were the first recipient of the first ever PLS Chairman’s Award, then recently Highlanders committed to honouring you by constructing a two-bedroom house for you. Can you share your sentiments on that with us?
God had planned that this would be my year of success. I must also emphasise that patience pays big time and I think all players have seen that through what has happened to me. I am elated with the recognition from the PLS and the Mbabane Highlanders family. This is something I am very emotional about.
Even so, who would you pick as the player that deserves Best Player Award at the team?
Fanelo Tsabedze was the best player in the team. He was more consistent throughout the season. He just needs to get guidance from the team because he can do great things for Highlanders as well as for the national team, Sihlangu.
You have had a wonderful season with Highlanders and you also did well with Sihlangu at the COSAFA Cup recently, and that has to attract interest from other teams.
I have received certain offers from interested teams, and they come in thick and fast. I had teams in South Africa’s PSL and National First Division making their interest in me known. They would love me to join them but they are yet to make formal bids. That is also the reason why I cannot disclose any names because these were just informal talks.
