EZULWINI – Following the nasty derby mayhem on December 7 at Somhlolo National Stadium, MTN and PLS have jointly apologised to the prime minister for the incident.

The head of government was at the venue when fans pelted stones during an abandoned match pitting Mbabane Swallows against Mbabane Highlanders with eight minutes left on the clock. Swallows were leading 4-1 at the time, and the premier had to be whisked off to safety by police.

On Wednesday night during the 2014/15 season MTN League prize presentation at the Royal Swazi Spa Convention Centre MTN CEO Ambrose Dlamini and PLS Chairman Victor Gamedze passed profound apologises to the PM for being caught up in the embarrassing incident.
“On behalf of MTN, we wish to pass our heartfelt appreciation to our leaders for attending certain league games.

We thank the PM, Cabinet ministers and other high ranking government officials for leading by example in supporting soccer in the country. We again apologise to His Excellency the prime minister for the commotion and disorder that he was exposed to on the day. We also implore football stakeholders, including the governing bodies, to always hold high standards in managing the games.”

Gamedze also added his voice and assured the PM that the league had taken a decision to strengthen its fight against violence in soccer games.
He said they were aware that football was a game of emotions, but were not going to fold their arms and allow violence to continue.
FA President Adam Bomber Mthethwa said his organisation was committed to working hand in hand with the PLS in improving football in the country.
