MBABANE – The national rugby team, Sizeze, will battle it out in the Africa South Cup alongside Lesotho and Malawi.

The battle to cross the whitewash among the three countries’ stars takes centre stage in Maseru, Lesotho between June 7 and 15 this year. Swaziland Rugby Union (SRU) President Michael Collinson confirmed that the national side would honour the invitation.

“We held a full executive committee meeting last Saturday to discuss the invitation and other issues. We are pleased to announce that the club presidents have all agreed that we should accept the invitation and travel to Lesotho.
We have only six weeks to prepare, but we can train and send a good competitive side. Training kicked off for the forwards last Thursday. The full squad will be at training today (yesterday). The coaches have put together a full coaching programme, whereby the team will train on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and every Saturday until departure to Maseru.”

Collinson said the players were aware of their expectations and were ready to fight for supremacy.
“We must put the debacle that was last year’s game in Lesotho behind us, and the humiliating defeat in Botswana last year to the back of our minds. The players are very motivated as they are eager to prove that Sizeze Eswatini is a good and competitive side capable of making Swaziland proud.”

Collinson said the team would soon intensify their preparations ahead of the national assignment.
“Our job is to go to Lesotho and make the nation proud. We are confident that the team selected to play in the upcoming tournament will play to the best of their ability, but most importantly, play to win the tournament.
We have contacted the players selected to attend the national squad training sessions and the response from everyone d has been very positive.”
