MATSAPHA – This is the biggest upset in local athletics!

Swaziland’s fastest man for the past three years, Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa got a rare taste of defeat yesterday at his home base in front of a home crowd, at Matsapha Police College, during the Athletics Association of Swaziland (AAS) Track and Field competition.

Fresh from sprinting to a new 200m national record in Mauritius, the RSP athlete was upset by Correctional’s Sebenele Dlamini in the 100m sprint, coming second best after a very long time in a discipline he has dominated for a very long time.

Dlamini clocked 10.5 seconds while Matsenjwa came in at 10.9 seconds in what was a huge surprise and boost for the former, and a sobering wake-up call for the favourite.

strenuously

“I’m elated. I prepared strenuously for this competition, and I would say he (Sibusiso) has competition now. It is good for me ahead of the championships and I also aim to work harder because I want to qualify for the All Africa Games,” Dlamini said.
Meanwhile, the competition also featured field events which are gaining momentum with each passing week.
