HIGHLANDERS GIVING US PROBLEMS – PLS’ HORTON
MBABANE – “Mbabane Highlanders are giving us problems”, were the words of Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) executive member Steve Horton.
In a wide ranging interview with this newspaper yesterday at Sigwaca House, Horton alleged that Highlanders were becoming a law unto themselves and were finding it very difficult to deal with the team.
“I think it is time one said enough is enough. We have had enough of Highlanders and we must put an end to it. The missing cards saga issue was the last straw really. Where else in the world have you seen a team claim to have forgotten cards before a game? Is this not a mockery of the game? Is the PLS still to blame now because we have been portrayed as an organisation that is fighting Highlanders?
“I want to challenge the real Highlanders people to stand up and be counted by doing introspection of whether they are doing the right thing for Highlanders? Is this the way to go? We are in a quest to professionalise the game but this will not be possible with teams like Highlanders clearly undermining our efforts,” he said.
Horton said he had to stand up and challenge the team seeing that his executive committee was seemingly dragging its feet on the matter.
“This has not happened in local football in a very long time and we cannot just sit down and ignore what the team did. It is unheard off.
“I have noted ever since Highlanders came back that they are also good in shifting the goalposts each time they face some challenges.
I would not want to dwell on some of the past incidents we have seen, where instead of owning up to some of the issues, they have blamed others for it.
