MBABANE – With the country’s Orange CAF Confederations Cup envoys Royal Leopard headed to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) next week to play AS Vita in the second leg, reports suggest that they could be in danger.

Latest reports sourced from the net have said that country was currently having too much political unrest due to its forthcoming presidential elections, with opposing sections protesting a certain law in the Elections Law.
Zimbabwean newspapers, The Chronicle and Daily Times reported, over the weekend, that the DRC has since withdrawn to host the second edition of the African Youth Championships which are the passage to the 2016 Rio Olympic games citing an unhealthy political environment as rebels and government troops clashed ahead of the forthcoming presidential elections.

Killings have been reported since January as rebels and government troops are fighting over the Elections Law. Interestingly, the date for the elections has been set for November 27, next year but since late last year there has been infighting with the M23 rebel group backed by Rwanda the main opposition.

This has also led to the Olympic qualifier clash between Swaziland and Zimbabwe’s Young Warriors first leg clash this weekend moved to the weekends of May 22-24 and May 29-31. The newspapers quoted CAF Competitions Deputy Director Khaled Nassar confirming the DRC’s withdrawal and new fixture dates.

“Following the withdrawal of DR Congo from hosting the tournament which will now be hosted by Senegal, Senegal isn’t participating in the qualifiers.
