MBABANE – In only his first SwaziBank Cup Under-20 Knockout tournament, Mbabane Swallows’ mercurial midfielder Richard Macreesh was last evening the biggest winner as he scooped the Top Goal Scorer and Player of the Series Awards.

The midfielder, who many have likened to the senior team’s midfielder Felix Badenhorst, was announced the top scorer after he finished the tournament with four goals, an award that gave him E2 400.
On top of that, he was named the Player of the Series and received E3 000 plus two trophies for both awards making him E5 400 richer. He and his team were the biggest winners in the end as Swallows, Umkhonto KaShaka as the junior side is referred to, were also officially crowned the 2015 SwaziBank Cup Under-20 champions.

Swallows were presented with E27 000 as champions and a trophy while runners-up Green Mamba got E12 600 with two of their players also receiving individual awards for their efforts in this year’s Ngiyo Ngiyo tournament. Taking the Best Goalkeeper Award was Green Mamba’s Ncamiso Mtsetfwa who pocketed E2 000 and a trophy while his teammate and midfielder Bayanda ‘Zuka’ Mlotsa was awarded the Man of the Match award in the final which they lost 2-1 and got a trophy for it.

“I had not expected to be named Player of the Series but I never doubted my performances even though the competition was tough and believe any player between my teammates and Green Mamba would have won it,” said Richard.
He thanked his teammates, management and mostly his mother who he said was his role model and always supportive of his sport of choice. He also congratulated his teammates for winning the tournament, saying he hoped they enjoyed it as he did. “It was fun, exciting and then to win it plus the individual trophies is quite something for me. I’m so happy I’ll always treasure this,” he said.

Green Mamba goalkeeper Ncamiso also said he was grateful for the award and believed he deserved it after his great performances, especially in their toughest games in the semis against Malanti Chiefs and the final.
“I believe all the awards went to well deserving players. I’m so excited for myself and the other winners including Richard who deserves what he got without a doubt,” he said. In attendance were the teams’ representatives from the PLS, PLS Executive members, PLS Chairman Victor Gamedze and SwaziBank Managing Director Zakhele Lukhele, among other people.
