PIRATES’ ‘FASH’ THE BEST

EZULWINI – Hard work is always rewarded.

 Moneni Pirates gangly forward Mfanufikile ‘Fash’ Ndzimandze is the SwaziBank Cup’s Player of the Series.
He beat his teammates, overlapping left back Thabiso Gumbi and inspirational midfielder Bongani Ndzimandze to the award. For his achievement, the speedy forward took home E13 000 for the prestigious award. He was also named the cup final’s Man of the Match, which is an award that carries E2 000. In total, the player went home E15 000 richer.

The tournament’s prize presentation ceremony was held at the Royal Swazi Convention Centre yesterday evening. It was a glitzy affair.
Ndzimandze, who scored with a cracking strike in the finals for his team’s second goal in the 2-0 win over runners-up Manzini Wanderers, paid tribute to his teammates for his sterling achievement.

“I could not have done it on my own, that is fact, and I would like to thank my teammates for the role they played throughout the tournament. I will obviously share the amount with the rest of my teammates because without them I would not have won it.

“I am also grateful to the team’s director and MC, who supported me throughout. They believed in me and never lost faith in my capabilities even when things were tough. I am very grateful to the whole Pirates’ family for the support they have given me,” said the former Mbabane Highlanders player. He said he was feeling at home in the club and pledged more years to the white and black outfit.

Most soccer lovers would have, however, expected the award to be won by the inspirational Ndzimandze, who was surprisingly overlooked, as he failed to win a single Man of the Match award during the course of the tournament despite having a fantastic tournament.

Another hot contender for the award, defender Gumbi, had a storming semi-final against Mbabane Highlanders.
He scored the all-too-important equaliser, which forced the game into extra time before Pirates overcame Highlanders.
