MBABANE – It was a bittersweet feeling for Manzini Wanderers and their overlapping right back Sicelo ‘Junior’ Simelane last night.

The defender was fined E10 000 by the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) Disciplinary Committee (DC) but he escaped the harsher penalty – a six-month suspension from all football activities.

Simelane, alongside his team and four other teammates had been charged by the SwaziBank Cup Management Committee (MC) for their acts of misconduct during the SwaziBank Cup semi-final encounter against Manzini Sundowns, which was played at Somhlolo National Stadium about two weeks ago.

The matter was heard at the NFAS Sigwaca House.
The maroon and white giants were facing three counts. The DC, chaired by Melusi Lukhele, acquitted the team in count two but found them guilty in counts one and three.

In count one, Wanderers were charged for contravening article 8 (i) (d) of the tournament’s rules and regulations in that on the said day, their player, Simelane, assaulted the referee, Thulani Sibandze, by pushing him aggressively in contravention of the said article.
In count three, the team was charged for contravening Article 8(1)(i) of the rules in that Wanderers failed to control their players and fans who committed misconduct during the game.

Wanderers were fined E10 000, which was wholly suspended and will instead pay only E3 000.
