FORGET IT, PLS TELLS ‘WESLIANS’

MBABANE – Manzini Wanderers’ dreams of hosting Mbabane Swallows under the Y’ello Sunday banner will remain just that – dreams.

In fact, the hub giants will not be hosting a game in any other Y’ello Sunday clash this season. This follows the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) ruling on the matter after the maroon and white ensemble had written to the organisation pleading to have the game played under the ‘Y’ello Sunday umbrella.

Wanderers were arguing that they had featured in four of the Y’ello Sunday activations, which is the sponsor MTN Swaziland’s initiative but have only been hosts once.

PLS Sponsorship and Brand Manager Lindiwe Matsenjwa said yesterday that the maroon and white giants were unlucky that the master fixture omitted the team from hosting the game under the Y’ello Sunday banner.

“After receiving the Wanderers letter, we made a formal request to our sponsor but unfortunately, our sponsor said it was already at too short a notice for marketing purposes. The date for our last Y’ello Sunday activation is already set and these are the games to be played on March 29.
“These games will pit RSSC United, who will host Mbabane Highlanders and Malanti Chiefs against Manzini Wanderers.

What should be clear in this matter is that the PLS executive has no say in such matters, as some may believe. They are not even aware of how we go about staging the Y’ello Sunday. That is between my office and the sponsor,” Matsenjwa said.
Matsenjwa explained that the mandate of the activation was to primarily ensure the sponsor gets mileage and to help the so-called smaller clubs to get revenue.
