MBABANE – Fast growing club Vélo Cycle eSwatini is setting the pace in local cycling.

The club is planning to stage an inaugural cycle tour, which will see the cyclists battling it out diagonally across the country.  Chairman Sebbie du Pont said some cyclists tested a similar route from Mbabane to Big Bend in the past weekend. “Vélo Cycle eSwatini members Sebbie and Carol du Pont with national coach, William Kelly pre-rode a 125km road ride cycle route from Mbabane to Riverside, Big Bend last Sunday, meeting Manzini rider Esau du Pont and then Garth Ryan of Big Bend Wheelers. Later on, former national champion Thulani Gule also joined the ride in Siphofaneni.

“This was only a portion of a proposed local cycle tour to be staged on a date to be announced. We will cycle diagonally across Swaziland in a single day from Matsamo to Lavumisa Border for about 285km using the national highways.”
Du Pont said the riders covered the distance easily within four hours including stops. Velo Cycle eSwatini was launched in the past year. It is behind the historic Coronation Cycle Park in Mbabane.
