MBABANE – The National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) executive is divided over the E1.5 million financial request filed by the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS).

The PLS, which a body running the country’s elite football league, wants a slice of the E5 million ‘cake’ from the football mother body, which is an annual grant by the government.

The PLS wants only 30 per cent of the E5 million package. Part of the money, according to the PLS, will also go towards the implementation of Vision 2022.

However, the request has divided the NFAS executive members, with some saying the PLS should be granted its request, while others believe the football mother body should not.
The matter was even discussed during the NFAS’ retreat held in Pigg’s  Peak about two weeks ago.

“You will recall that recently, we gave the PLS a sum of E800 000, which is money that was to be used for the Under-20 League and also to empower the PLS teams. We expected the PLS to buy the teams items like computers, office furniture and rent out office space for them.

“While the FA Executive Committee was generally pleased with the manner in which they went about in handling the Under-20 League, there were a lot of questions on the manner in which the office ignored what the FA had made clear needed to be done with the rest of the money, which was to empower teams,” said a source close to the football mother body.

He, however, noted that the matter was yet to be tabled before the executive committee where a decision will be taken. PLS Chief Executive Officer (CEO) John Mazibuko said as an organisation they also had their dreams and vision on how they can take the sport forward.
