MBABANE – Sharks Swimming Club’s Keana Toepfer was ranked first in the individual rankings during the SWAKI Gala held on Saturday at Sifundzani Primary.

The 11-year-old accumulated 10 points during the event. She was the best performer on the day. Each swimmer was awarded points in each event. Coming second was Simanga Dlamini from Blue Whales on 9 points.

Topfer said it was a surprise to her that she was the winner on the day. She was presented with a trophy for her achievement.
“I was surprised when I was announced the winner. I never thought that I would be the best performer. I’m so excited and this will motivate me to work even harder. I hope I will end the year on a high note,” she said.

The swimmers had a tough weekend as on Sunday they competed in the KPMG Swazi Mile held at Luphohlo Dam, where Dlamini was the winner.
Swaziland National Swimming Association (SNSA) Secretary Janice Hopf said they were impressed by the standard of the swimmers.
The SWAKI Gala on Saturday saw some young swimmers doing well. They included six-year-old Haley Hoy, who went home with five medals. Other young stars who dominated were Alex Ramsamy and Timo Toepfer.

SWAKI representative Pat Jonga said, as a sponsor, they were happy to be associated with swimming. She said it is good that the sport was giving focus to the young stars who are showing great talent and commitment.
