Jazz .........................................35
Superstars ...............................26

MBABANE – Giants Mbabane Jazz beat fellow heavyweights Manzini Superstars 35-26 to be the last team standing in ‘The Beat Goes on’ basketball tournament yesterday.

The Coronation Park Court in Mbabane was a hive of activity over the past three days as the battle for supremacy took centre stage.
Jazz, who doubled as the hosts of the festivities, were their usual selves showing mobility and sheer precision in the tension-filled final last night.

toughest

However, the Manzini-based ensemble, led by temperamental Region V Under-20 Youth Games squad coach Bheki Nxumalo, were also a hard nut to crack but had to endure one of the toughest games as players kept on picking injuries, ending up with a depleted team.

Jazz led 18-14 at half-time but capitalised on the opposition’s injuries in the deciding period to record a convincing victory.
The eventual winners had beaten Luyengo 46-29 in the semi-final while Superstars overcame a resilient Raptors by 42-40 in the last four.

pocketed

For their showing, the champions pocketed E1 000, courtesy of Nedbank Swaziland while the runners-up got half the amount.
Meanwhile, Jazz coach Tech Muyambo commended his charges for the spirited display as he felt the opponents also came to the party.
“The plan was to be disciplined in defence and be patient on the offence,” he said.

Nxumalo, on the other hand, was fuming from the sidelines as he felt his players were not protected from the countless fouls.
