LOBAMBA – Cedric ‘Cheeseboy’ Gulwa, deemed surplus to requirements at Manzini Wanderers, was an instant hero at Moneni Pirates after netting the equaliser against his former team.

He was to later turn villain though, after being shown the red card by FIFA accredited referee Mbongiseni Fakudze for his challenge on Wanderers’ Chimwanda Takawira late in the second half.
Gulwa was introduced by his coach, Happy ‘Messiah’ Simfukwe just after the recess. At the time, Wanderers were enjoying a solitary goal lead netted by aggressive striker Sdumo Shongwe as early as the fifth minute of the clash after an initial shot by the back again Gareth Sussman could only be parried back into the field of play by debutant Pirates goalkeeper Thabiso Mkhize and Shongwe, who was lurking by easily stabbed home. On coming on, the speedy winger combined brilliantly with Ndumiso Dlamini and Bongani Ndzimandze and gave Menzi Gamedze all sorts of problems whenever he was in possession of the ball.

He took Gamedze on for pace on the right flank, stormed into the danger area and let fly a stinging shot, which goalkeeper Sandile ‘Nkomishi’ Ginindza could only watch as it kissed the back of the net to cancel Wanderers opener only about 13 minutes after the restart.
It was game on.

However, Gulwa spoilt his good day when he was rightly sent off by referee Fakudze moments later just whan Pirates thought they were going for the kill. His murderous tackle on Chimwanda was a dismissible offence.
Wanderers, who had started the brighter side, failed to capitalise on their numerical advantage. Their coach, Gcina ‘Magiyane’ Dlamini, had given a rare start to Sussman and had left regulars like Sihle Ndaba, Lwazi Maziya and Sandile ‘Theo’ Motsa on the bench.

He introduced them in the last half but they still failed to give the team the sparkle it so desperately needed.
On the opposite end, Pirates were patient with their build-ups despite conceding an early goal. Phila Dlamini and Ndzimandze’s combination was troublesome.
In the end, both coaches appreciated the point rather than two points dropped, as the game could have gone either way.
