LOBAMBA – Former Manzini Wanderers Director Lawrence ‘Lolo’ Mthethwa heads the newly-appointed Swaziland National Sports and Recreation Council Board.

He was unveiled by Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala at the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) Technical Centre yesterday.

Also in the new-look committee are former NFAS First Vice President Timothy Shongwe and former Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) first lady Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nqobile Magagula. Inyatsi Construction Managing Director (MD) Martin Ferreira is also a member of the new Board. Ferreira was, however, absent during the unveiling ceremony.

Addressing the media yesterday during the unveiling, Ngcamphalala noted that the appointment of the Board members came with many responsibilities.

The new Board members have already assumed their duties.
“We expect you to treat all sporting codes the same. Your short term target is that by the end of 2015, as a ministry, we expect positive results. For the period of 2018-2022, our country should have strong sporting teams, that will play competetively both internationally and locally.

“The major impasse we had in the past with the Sports Council was the Sports Policy. My instruction to the Board is to review the policy with all stakeholders and make recommendations where necessary. We need sponsors for the development of sports in the country and that is another mandate you have to fulfil,” Ngcamphalala said.
