HLATIKHULU – An Induna has lashed out at Deputy Prime Minister Paul Dlamini, accusing him of failing to address a number of chieftaincy disputes while he was Shiselweni Regional Administrator.

The disputes involved the jostling of power of chieftaincy candidates, with one of the war of words dragging on for over 40 years.
Mfeneziyamthoba Magagula is an Indvuna at Sibetsamoya in Hlatikhulu, under KoNtshingila acting Chief Gelane Zwane. Magagula said that the unresolved disputes in the Shiselweni region have stalled development in the region.

“Dlamini escaped when there was trouble. He feared the fighting factions and ended up not addressing the issue of the chieftaincy disputes in the region,” said Magagula.
But Dlamini protested and said he had done his best at the time. “I summoned and united all chieftaincy candidates and tried to deliberate the issues. I never failed the Shiselweni people”.

Hinder

“I agree that these issues hinder development in the many affected communities,” said Dlamini.
He further said while chieftaincy disputes in the region were reported to him, he believed that it was more a matter of the people fighting – not the chiefs.
According to the latest Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) statistics, there are a total of 336 chieftaincies in the country.
