‘I WAS A VIRGIN, HE OFFERED ME E100’
MANZINI – The maiden who was allegedly raped by a man after they were dispersed at the recently concluded Reed Dance informed the court that she was a virgin and the suspect had offered her E100 before having unlawful sexual intercourse with her.
The complainant maintained, yesterday in court, that she was raped by the suspect, Philangenkosi Motsa (33), while inside a certain house situated near Emathangeni in Matsapha.
“Your worship, the suspect asked me if I had had sexual intercourse before and if I knew how painful it was to be raped than to reach an agreement.
“He then offered me E100, which I refused. He proceeded to have unlawful sexual intercourse with me while I was sleeping on the floor in his bedroom,” the complainant alleged.
She further alleged that in the morning, Motsa ordered her to take a bath and said he was going to work.
The complainant, who is 14 years old and doing Grave IV, alleged that the suspect did not even bother to give her the money and she had to be assisted by a certain woman who gave her E5 for bus fare.
The maiden formed part of the 80 000 who were dispersed after the end of the reed dance on September 2, where they were given various presents.
Her father submitted on Monday, in court, that his daughter had been missing from home for nine days when he eventually spotted her near the George Hotel in the company of two men.
One of the men is the suspect, who is now facing a rape charge.
During cross-examination, the suspect denied raping the complainant and said they had a mutual agreement to have sexual intercourse.
While the complainant was being questioned, the suspect would laugh, something which did not go down well with Magistrate Dumisa Mazibuko.
“Is this whole matter a joke to you? Why are you laughing, you think we are here to play games?” the magistrate was heard asking.
Motsa apologised to the court. The case was postponed to today for sentencing.
