MBABANE – An Imbali indvuna from KoNtshingila was assaulted with a golf club at the Reed Dance.

The KaGwegwe indvuna was severely assaulted by six men at Lobamba during the course of Umhlanga.
The Indvuna, Gcebesha Simelane, is currently admitted to the Mbabane Government Hospital where he is fighting for his life. The six assailants are said to have hit Simelane on the face several times with the golf club.

Simelane’s relatives confirmed that he was assaulted by unknown men while at Lobamba. The relatives said Simelane was from KaGwegwe under acting Chief Gelane Zwane.
“Doctors have advised him not to consume solid foods for a month. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the assailants will be brought to book,” said Phumzile Dlamini, a relative of Simelane.

Dlamini said she was told that Simelane was accompanying maidens from KaGwegwe to nearby shops to buy something. On their way to the shops, the maidens and the indvuna were approached by a group of men who are said to have wanted to propose love to the maidens.
One of the men drew a golf club and assaulted Simelane several times on the face until he lost consciousness.

Police from Lobamba were called to the scene to record a statement. Information gathered is that no arrests have been made so far as the assailants remain at large while Simelane is still being treated for injuries to his swollen face.
Investigations are still ongoing in a bid to get hold of the assailants.

When sought for comment, Police Assistant Information and Communications Officer Assistant Superintendent Khulani Mamba said he was not in a position to comment on the matter.
