WOMAN ARRESTED FOR ARMED ROBBERY

MANZINI – A woman (40) was this weekend arrested for armed robbery offences and being found in possession of a 9mm pistol.

Thoko Nhlabatsi of Ekudzeni was arrested by the Matsapha Police Station officers under the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) together with her counterparts, Edward Nxumalo (32) of Ngculwini and Mciniseli Matsebula (27) of Mbekelweni.

The three suspects are said to have been targeting stores owned by Asian nationals, where they allegedly committed the robberies. Information gathered from a well-placed source is that the getaway vehicle, a Toyota Tazz, would allegedly be driven by Nhlabatsi before and after committing the armed robbery offences.

When they were arrested on Friday, Nhlabatsi was found in possession of the pistol and seven live rounds of ammunition. She was charged for contravening the arms and ammunitions act.
On July 12, 2014, at Mbadlane, the suspects allegedly attacked one Mohammed Ali, who owns a grocery store, and stole items which included packs of cigarettes, food items and airtime vouchers among other items valued at E4 780.

On the same day, Nhlabatsi and Matsebula, armed with the same pistol, allegedly attacked one Hussan Mohammed at Mbekelweni and made away with his cellphone, grocery items and E10 000 cash, which was taken from the store till.
On April 4, 2014 at Mbekelweni, Nhlabatsi on her own, allegedly attacked Jamal Uddin and threatened to shoot him to induce the submission of cash (E3 000). When the police arrested her, the getaway vehicle was found parked at her home.
During their appearance in court on Sunday before Magistrate Sindisile Zwane, the suspects informed the court that they would conduct their own defence during trial.
They were remanded back in custody until September 4, 2014 pending committal to the High Court.
