E2.1 MILLION PARKING GARAGE FOR PM
MBABANE – Government has constructed a parking garage worth E2.1 million for Prime Minister Sibusiso Barnabas Dlamini.
The costly garage, which is at the PM’s official residence at Hospital Hill, accommodates three cars. Its inside fittings have been kept confidential. The garage’s worth is almost equivalent to a double-storey house that is being sold by Pam Goldings Properties – as advertised in their website.
According to documents the Times Investigations Desk has in its possession, government has paid E2 160 134.41 for the construction of the garage.
A tender for the provision of a three-car garage for the PM’s residence was awarded to a company identified as Civils International. The award was done in March 11, 2014.
Government Press Secretary Percy Simelane says the construction of the garage has already been finalised. He said the garage has been constructed next to the old garage.
The old garage accommodates two cars.
However, with the construction of the new garage, it now means the PM can safely park five cars in his two garages.
“Kudala liphelile lelo garage,” Simelane said in vernacular.
“They did not demolish the old garage but, instead, they have constructed a new one next to the old structure. I wouldn’t know what is inside the garage but what I can confirm is that the garage has three doors,” Simelane said.
He said the construction of the garage was part of the rehabilitation project that was done in December last year. The major rehabilitation project at the PM’s residence at Hospital Hill cost taxpayers about E5 million. The rehabilitation exercise resulted in the PM staying at a hotel.
Simelane said protection of the PM’s vehicles was very paramount since the worst could happen.
