HLATHIKHULU - KaGodloza chieftaincy nominee Sibonginkosi Langa Simelane says he is linked to the royal family through King Mswati II and as such, he was in line for the Kontshingila chieftaincy.

Langa said he was unperturbed by the announcing of Sikelela as the new chief of Kontshingila as he believes that only His Majesty the King was the rightful authority to pronounce who the chief should be.
In fact, he said he does not know who Sikelela is or where he comes from. He declined to discuss any issue relating to Sikelela as he maintained that he does not talk about people he does not know.

This comes after long time acting chief, Senator Gelane Zwane, from the Kagwegwe faction last Saturday unveiled Sikelela as the new chief. The announcement has been met with controversy following that His Majesty had ordered that no meetings should be held at Kontshingila pending the finalisation of the dispute. On the other hand, KaGwegwe Indvuna Mfeneziyamthoba Magagula said they had permission to hold the unveiling ceremony on Saturday.

“We were given permission by Indlovukati to have the unveiling of Sikelela at Kotshingila,” said Magagula.
The Kontshingila disputes dates to many years back. In 1996 six people were killed when residents fought as a result of the chieftaincy dispute, which in recent times saw both factions arming themselves. Nearly three decades later, the factions are still at war over who will be the next chief of the area.

Both factions have pledged to take their candidates to the King for blessings.
Langa did not want to entertain questions on whether he would accept Sikelela should His Majesty pronounce as Kontshingila chief.
He maintained that such decision to appoint the chief was the sole responsibility of the King.

“I was taken to Ludzidzini where I met the late Jim Gama. There was a witness who can confirm that meeting,” he said. He would not say whether this is meeting with the late Ludzidzini governor confirmed him as the new chief.
Explaining why he had put a claim to the chieftaincy, he said the name Langa was given to him by the Simelane clan.
“I was born in 1966 from Johannes Simelane and Shonaphi Dlamini. Johannes was later given the name Simelane Simelane after he became chief of KoNtshingila. My mother, Shonaphi, is popularly known as LaMlondi. Mlondi was the son of Bhili.

“Bhili was the son of Mgidla who was then born from Mswati II,” he related. According to Langa his father, Simelane Simelane, passed on around 1972.
Interviewed last week, Inkhosikati Shonaphi Dlamini said her son had the credentials to become the next KoNtshingila chief.

“We shall not accept any other candidate as a chief of KoNtshingila besides my son, Langa, who is the rightful person to become a chief,” she maintained. Isaiah Shongwe, who is among the traditional leaders under KoNtshingila KaGodloza umphakatsi, said Langa was accepted by the late Ludzidzini governor, Jim Gama.
Shongwe is said to have been present when such a matter was discussed over four years ago.

“We as Simelanes endorsed Langa Simelane as the next Kontshingila chief. The issue was concluded by Jim Gama hence we are shocked how things seem to be changing now,” he said
Others from the same faction shared the same sentiments but could not produce any proof substantiating their claims as Gama has since passed on.

KaGododloza Indvuna Goodman Bhembe said it was in July, 2009, that they were summoned to Ludzidzini where they met Jim Gama. Bhembe said Gama accepted Langa as their next potential chief.
