MBABANE – A Ntfonjeni Primary School teacher was stabbed to death by her former lover who later committed suicide by taking weevil tablets.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening at Zibonele in northen Hhohho.
Thulile Magagula (38) was stabbed over 20 times with a spear by her former boyfriend identified as Mbhushu Kunene (39) who later killed himself moments after committing the murder. The gruesome incident happened just after 6pm. It is believed Kunene was driven by jealousy to kill Magagula, even though they were no longer in a love relationship.

Information gathered from close family relatives is to the effect that the two had been in a love relationship for over two years. It is alleged that the relationship turned sour due to Kunene’s continuous physical abuse towards Magagula, resulting in both families meeting over the matter and advising them to end the affair.

Magagula’s aunt, identified only as Make Mhlanga, in an interview, said on Sunday the deceased was in one of the family houses with her children and other relatives when she was attacked by Kunene.

“Kunene came to the family compound and hid behind a car parked within the premises. From our assessment, he was unable to easily get into the house, so he waited until someone came out of the house and thereafter took the chance to gain entry at that moment.

“Indeed, one of the deceased’s children came out of the house to fetch water from a tap within the homestead. Kunene pushed his way inside and stabbed Thulile several times. The other family members tried to fight with him but he threatened to stab them as well if they came any closer to him. The young child who had exited the house raised an alarm but since it was already evening, most of the people had locked themselves inside their houses,” narrated Mhlanga.

She said Thulile tried to run out of the house but Kunene followed her and continued stabbing her while neighbours and other relatives tried to come to her rescue.
However, their efforts were once again in vain as Kunene continued to threaten anyone who came close to him. “At this point, he was dragging the profusely bleeding Magagula with one hand, more like parading her within the family premises, with the spear still in his other hand.

“He went on to dump her by the gate. She was still alive by then because she called for help again but in a very weak voice. While everyone thought he would leave her there, he once again stabbed her several times until she died,” Mhlanga explained, stating that the family was still in shock, especially because Kunene had the guts to commit such a crime within the family premises.

Mhlanga further narrated, “We watched her die. There was very little we could do at that point. She had stab wounds all over the body, even on her feet.”
After killing her ex-lover, Kunene is said to have jumped over a fence separating the homestead and the veld and ran for about seven kilometers before taking half a bottle of the weevil tablets that were inside his pocket.

By the time police arrived, they found him already dead and took his body to the mortuary. Police Public Relations Officer Superitendent Wendy Hleta confirmed the incident and said police were investigating the matter.

Possessive lover wouldn’t let her talk to men

MBABANE – Jealousy is said to have driven Mbhusha Kunene to gruesomely kill his ex-lover, a teacher at Ntfonjeni Primary School by stabbing her more than 20 times with a spear.

The deceased Thulile Magagula is said to have ended her two-year affair with Kunene following advice from family members who feared for her life.
Kunene is said to have been physically abusive towards Magagula and would not allow her to talk to any man.

“Just last month, Thulile had to be hospitalised after being assaulted by Kunene. He also vandalised her car and that is when the family took a stance that the two should end their relationship. He was a very possessive man, he didn’t want her to talk to anyone else,” explained Make Mhlanga, Thulile’s aunt.

Mhlanga also revealed that Kunene was fined four cattle for assaulting her and damaging her car. “Kunene knew very well that Thulile was married to a Ginindza man. However, the marriage didn’t work out, resulting in her moving back to her parental home.

“He was fined for assaulting a married woman and damaging her car. He had not paid the fine when the incident occurred. We are still shocked and don’t even know what to do at this point,” she explained.
The deceased leaves behind two children aged 14 and seven.

Tragic incidents these days appear to be on the rise, really, something needs to be done to serve many people who are engulfed by anger and selfishness. Accepting what one can't change can bail us out of some bad behaviors, it may sound easier said than done but all we need to do is to try. I know, there's no good way of loosing people but i'm tempted to say that this is a bad way of loosing people. Some people are unpredictable and difficuld to understand, more especially us men. We need to learn that a thing which began politely and respectful, if maybe by chance that thing ends, it should ends on that very same way it started. This may not sound easier too, to many. One last thing we must always bare in mind is that we all have a right to live until that far away day yet to come when we become silent about those things that matter the most.

My sincere condolences to the family and children. They need counselling as the drama they saw will be in their minds for life. I hope ladies will learn from these and not go out with such losers.
