CTA EMPLOYEE ARRESTED FOR THEFT OF 6 204L DIESEL

SITEKI – An employee at the Siteki Central Transportation Administration (CTA) depot has been arrested for allegedly stealing 6 204 litres of diesel worth E66 382.


Zwelethu Henry Mkhabela is alleged to have committed the offence between the period of 12-18 April 2013.
Despite that the crime was allegedly committed in April last year, Mkhabela was only arrested in June this year.


He made his first court appearance before Magistrate Nonhlanhla Dlamini on June 26 where he elected to acquire the services of an attorney when his right to legal representation was explained to him. He was not asked to plead to the charge following a postponement application by the Crown, which was represented by Pat Mkhatshwa.


Mkhatshwa applied that the matter be postponed pending setting of trial date. The court granted the application and postponed the matter to las Tuesday. But last Tuesday the matter was postponed again to this week.


Mkhatshwa submitted that the matter be postponed while he awaits a directive from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Mkhabela is currently out on E2 000 bail after his attorney, Kush Vilakati, successfully applied for bail on his behalf.


Meanwhile, also last Tuesday, former Maloyi Primary School Head teacher Johannes Shongwe appeared before Magistrate Dlamini following his arrest for fraud last month.
Shongwe is facing 47 counts of forgery, 46 counts of uttering and one count of fraud. In the count of forgery, Shongwe is alleged to have forged the signature of the School Committee Chairperson Jacob Simelane on 47 occasions.


In the first count of fraud, he allegedly misrepresented to Simelane, a chairperson of the school committee, that a total amount of E169 759.02 was for expenditure incurred by the school.


 And by means of the said representation, induced the said Jacob Simelane to his prejudice, yet he knew very well that the said amount was not for the expenditure incurred by the school.
Shongwe has been admitted to E5 000 bail.
