LOGCOGCO’S FUNERAL NOT BEFITTING CHIEF - TV

MBABANE – The late Prince Logcogco did not receive a send-off befitting his status of being a chief.

This was the observation of Timothy Velabo Mtetwa, the acting Ludzidzini Governor, in an interview yesterday.
Prince Logcogco was buried at Ntfubeni Mountains at Dlangeni on Sunday morning.
However, the funeral entourage left Gundvwini Royal Kraal at around 4:30pm on Saturday in readiness for the long journey to Ntfubeni Mountains.

Mtetwa said one of the people tasked with carrying clothing material and other traditional belongings of the late prince was supposed to be clad in Sigeja (a traditional upper body garment made from cow tails).

He was responding to a question posed by this newspaper on whether it was normal for a prince, who happened to be chief, to leave the senior traditional hut (Indlunkhulu) without Sigeja as was the case when the body of Prince Logcogco was taken to the mountains.
“Eh, baganga labantfu labenta njalo (they erred big time) and what they did is never done to any chief,” stated Mtetwa. He explained that chiefs were buried differently from ordinary citizens.

Shield

The traditional prime minister stressed that Sigeja and a shield (Lihawu) was a matter of must in any funeral of a chief.
“This symbolises that the person about to be laid to rest was no ordinary person, but a chief in charge of the chiefdom,” Mtetwa emphasised.
Some of the interviewed princes from Gundvwini Royal Kraal yesterday admitted the blunder.

However, they distanced themselves from it on the claim that they were not responsible for the preparations of the funeral.
Prince Logcogco, who held the position of Liqoqo Chairman, died over a week ago while admitted to a South African hospital.
He was also the Chairman of Tibiyo TakaNgwane Main Committee.

Efforts to get a comment from Jani Mngometulu, the Headman (Indvuna) of Gundvwini Royal Kraal, drew a blank as his mobile phone was switched off.
