MBABANE – Total grief and sorrow engulfed the Mbabane Nazarene Church yesterday during the memorial service of the late SPTC employee Funekile Gule.
Words such as ‘too shocked’, ‘unbelievable’, and ‘terrible’ formed part of the speeches by different speakers.

The church structure turned out to be too small as scores of mourners showed up for the memorial of the Mbabane socialite who died a mysterious death last week.
So full was the church that some mourners had to stand by the entrance while others followed proceedings through windows.

‘Funi’, as she was affectionately known to her friends and colleagues, was found dead underneath a car at the premises of Mbabane Highlanders elder Moses Dlamini where she rented a flat.
The memorial service, which was highly emotional, began at exactly 1pm and Stanley Mkhwanazi was the Master of Ceremonies.

Speaking on behalf of Funekile’s family was Duma Gule who said the family was still too shocked by what had happened.
He described Funekile as a hero in the making who unfortunately died without reaching her full potential.

Shocked

“She was like a torch and a role model to her peers. We are very sad about what has happened because we don’t know why it has happened. To say we are still shocked by this incident would be an understatement,” he said.
Emotions rose even higher when Gule briefly tried to describe the scene where Funekile’s body was found.

“Solo siyatibuta kutsi lengati lengaka yaka Gule beyicitfwe lani, futsi iciftwa ngubani nangabe kungumutfu. Uyamangala nje kutsi bekuhlatjwa ini lapha ka Dlamini,” he said.
As Gule said this, a number of Funekile’s friends and SPTC employees failed to control themselves and openly wept.

He said as a family, they also sympathised with the Dlamini family for the gruesome incident which happened on their premises.
“Nabo siyabalilela kutsi kungenteka intfo lenjena ebaleni labo,” he said.

Funekile’s brother, Mbongeni Gule, who spoke on behalf of siblings, said the family did not believe in anything else but God and prayer. He said God has heard their prayers and would fight for them.
“He fought for Samson when he could no longer see. He who can talk to God can talk to anyone. People can say anything they want to say but God will answer our prayers. I won’t talk much about Funi as we are still shocked,” he said.
He described Funekile as someone who was humble and honest. He said what happened to her was unbelievable.
