BURIAL BENEFIT SOCIETY EMPLOYEE ARRESTED FOR THEFT OF COFFINS
MBABANE – A funeral parlour employee has been arrested for the alleged theft of coffins, Director of the Mbabane Burial Benefit Society Dudu Dlamini confirmed.
However, Dlamini asked that the number of the stolen coffins not be revealed for now to allow the police to complete their investigations.
Dlamini was shocked after discovering that one of her employees was making illegitimate proceeds out of her business without her knowledge.
“All along I thought he was a genuine employee and I trusted him. I wonder where he got the influence to steal, let alone a coffin. But I am relieved because justice has finally been done.
“We reported the matter to the police on February 15 and police investigations have finally been successful,” said Dlamini.
“I first thought we made miscalculations during our stock taking. But as time went by we discovered that something was amiss hence we raised eyebrows.
“That was when I decided to report the matter to the police,” she said.
Dlamini said they have discovered that the suspect was stealing the coffins for commercial purposes. He is believed to have been selling the coffins to retailers who in turn sold them to clients.
The coffins that were stolen are estimated to be plus or minus E6 000.
The suspect has since been arrested and will today appear at the Mbabane Magistrate Court.
