LUBOMBO CHIEFS PLEDGE SUPPORT FOR NEW RA

SITEKI – Chiefs from the Lubombo Region have pledged to support newly-appointed Regional Administrator (RA) Sylvia Mthethwa.


The chiefs made the pledge during the official introduction of Mthethwa by Minister of Tinkhundla Administration and Development Mduduzi Dlamini yesterday afternoon.
Speaking on behalf of all chiefs in the region, Mambane Chief and appointed Senator Mvimbi Matse, said chiefs need to accord Mthethwa the respect and support she deserves even though she is a woman.


“We pledge to support you as you assume your new duties and we further promise to respect you despite that you are a woman. We understand that we now live in an environment where women and men are equal, hence there would be no reason why we should disrespect you just because you are a woman,” Matse said before thanking His Majesty the King for appointing Mthethwa to the position of RA for the region.


“I would like to thank His Majesty the King for making history by appointing the first female Regional Administrator (RA) to the Lubombo Region,” said Chief Matse.
Matse then warned the new RA against favouritism saying she should treat all chiefs equally.He warned that should Mthethwa become choosy, she would lose support of all the chiefs. In her address, Mthethwa acknowledged that it would be a bit challenging working with chiefs since she is a woman but said she was confident that she would cope.


Before delivering her speech, Mthethwa apologised to the chiefs for standing up while addressing them saying she was aware that it was culturally wrong for a woman to stand up when addressing chiefs.
