MAGUBHELENI – Police are conducting an intensive investigation to locate a suspected rapist on the loose.

The man, who police are searching for, is believed to be responsible for the rape of a 78-year-old woman at Magubheleni.
The incident happened just after the survivor received her quarterly grant.

The attack is said to have taken place on Thursday evening at the survivor’s homestead in the area.
Nothing was reported stolen from the homestead apart from the alleged committal of the dastardly act, police said. Magubheleni is located in Shiselweni, about five kilometres to the north-west of Gege.

Police officers were on the scene at 1am on Thursday night, in reaction to a call.
Information gathered is that the alleged offender got into the woman’s house through a window. He forced his way into the house and dragged her out before proceeding to sexually assault her outside.

It was established that the alleged rapist forced the naked woman outside her house so she would not wake up children she stays with.
Police said it was the second time that the woman had been subjected to sexual violence, and it is believed that the perpetrator could be the same person who attacked her last month.

The first incident happened on October 28, according to authorities.
In the previous attack the alleged assailant is said to have also struck at night, but the crime was committed inside the woman’s house, where she stays with young children.
During the earlier incident, the suspect is alleged to have forced entry by breaking the door to the house.

Sources said in the second incident, police spotted the suspect but he managed to elude them as he ran away before they could make an apprehension.
He is said to have ignored warnings and disappeared into the thick of the night.

The crime scene has, however, been thoroughly processed for evidence and the police net is said to be closing in on the alleged suspect.
Superintendent Wendy Hleta, Police Public Relations Officer, said investigators were following leads.
“An incident of that nature occurred and we gathered that, apart from the rape, nothing was stolen from the homestead. However, we are following leads on the matter,” she said.
