MPISI FARM - Nearly 120 000 maidens marched back to Ludzidzini Royal Residence after cutting reed yesterday.
The maidens made their first stop at Ngabezweni Royal Residence before proceeding to Ludzidzini where they are expected to deliver the reed in the presence of the King and the Indlovukazi tomorrow.

“Everything is on track and the thousands of maidens seem to be enjoying every moment of the 2013 Umhlanga Ceremony. Generally, they have been well behaved since they arrived; we hope they will keep up the impressive responsible behaviour for the entire Umhlanga Ceremony,” said acting Imbali overseer Hlangabeza Mdluli during an interview at the farm.
The main event of the Umhlanga Ceremony will be held on Monday.

Hampers

About 55 000 maidens, who were commissioned by His Majesty King Mswati III to cut umhlanga, received free toiletry hampers worth E1.6 million.
The actual cost of the toiletry hampers that were received by maidens shortly before being commissioned by the King to cut umhlanga on Wednesday was E1 650 000.

The hampers, which came with a free bag, contained a comb, soap, sanitary pads, panty liners, toothpaste, tooth- brush and toilet paper.
The Imbali Foundation initiated a campaign to collect and provide toiletry hampers for maidens at the reed dance with the intention of promoting a healthy lifestyle among the maidens.

Inkhosatana Sikhanyiso recently called upon all Swazi maidens to keep their virginity until marriage and warned men to stay away from Imbali.
The vision bearer of Imbali Foundation, which distributed free toiletry hampers worth E1.6 million to about 55 000 maidens said virginity should be the pride of Swazi maidens.
