MBABANE – Former King’s Private Secretary Sam Mpopoli Mkhombe has been nominated to run to be a Member of Parliament (MP).

Mkhombe was nominated under the Mbabane East Inkhundla.
He was nominated yesterday at Limkokwing University of Technology together with 11 other candidates.

Mkhombe who was dressed in a black suit, white shirt and a red tie said he was ready to serve the people if they believed in him.
“I’m happy to have been nominated and it is up to the people if they want to send me to Parliament to represent them.  I’m ready for the challenge,” he said.

Other candidates that will be up against Mkhombe in the elections include Mfanasibili Zwane, Musa Monday Dlamini, John Dlamini, Martin Mncina, Muziwethu Mhlanga and Joseph Sibandze who works at the Swaziland Water Services Corporation (SWSC).

Nominations adjourned for almost an hour

MBABANE – Nominations were adjourned for close to an hour at Mbabane East as a faction of voters could not gain entry into the crammed main hall due to space shortages.

The screams and whistles in protest of the nominations being conducted inside the Mbabane SAGM Primary School hall forced Elections and Boundaries Commission officials to change the venue.

At 9:49am, Presiding Officer Pastor Mduduzi Dlamini informed voters that the venue would be changed with immediate effect.

He said the change of venue to the school’s assembly square was done to complaints from some voters who claimed to be deprived of their right to nominate because they could not enter the crammed main hall.

“The hall could not accommodate all voters, so we definitely had to change because not all voters could gain entry yet they were supposed to receive an equal opportunity to nominate,” Dlamini. As the nearly 1 000 voters relocated from the school hall to the assembly square, six police officers maintained peace and order.
