Yuki', Cheese boy' hijacked
MBABANE – Swazi international Dennis ‘Yuki’ Masina and Manzini Wanderers crowd pleaser, Thami ‘Cheese boy’ Mofokeng, are lucky to be alive after falling victim to the widespread car hijacks of locally registered vehicles in the crime riddled South Africa over the weekend.
The soccer stars were attacked by four heavily armed gunmen on Saturday night in Nelspruit, South Africa and the car they were travelling in was stolen.
The vehicle, a Dodge Nitro, registered SD 707 YS belongs to top lawyer Mduduzi ‘Tsotsi’ Mabila, and is worth over E400 000.
The soccer stars were from Midrand, where the car had gone for a service, and were on their way to a funeral in Nelspruit.
The incident happened around 9pm next to Likazi Township when a white sedan, which had been following the two soccer stars from the city centre, suddenly over-took them only to make a screeching stop, forcing the driver (Yuki) to stop. The four gunmen, according to an informed source, then brandished guns, forcing the soccer stars out of the car. They took all their belongings, which included cell-phones and clothes and drove away.
The traumatised soccer stars had to hitch-hike their way back to the city centre, where they reported the matter to the nearest police station.
Owner of the vehicle Mabila was still distraught when he confirmed the incident last night.
“I am hoping it will be recovered because it had gone for service, and Yuki was going to attend his uncle’s funeral in Nelspruit, and would have returned home on Sunday morning,” Mabila said.
Efforts to get comment from Masina were unsuccessful as his cellphone was stolen.
