MBABANE- The owner of the broke construction company that left before it could be complete the new look Swaziland Broadcasting Information and Services (SBIS) building costing taxpayers millions of Emalangeni has been rewarded.

His Majesty King Mswati III appointed Nhlonipho Bhubhu Dlamini, who was running Juluka Construction, into the Swazi National Council Standing Committee (SNCSC) otherwise known as Liqoqo.

He is expected to advise the king on issues that affect the country economically, socially and politically.

Juluka was awarded the SBIS job worth over E27 million and he was expected to complete it within two years, however all that never happened. The only thing that went well was payments into the company’s account.

stalled

Dlamini liquidated his construction company shortly after complaints from the SBIS employees about the stalled construction at the site.

Former SBIS Director Stan Motsa tried to locate the contractor, but he could not and it was then that he reported to the Ministry of Works that the construction company left before they finished the job.

Dlamini’s company was given an ultimatum by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to continue with the job or have his contract terminated. Seemingly he failed to resume work and he moved for a liquidation, saying his company was broke and he could not continue with the work at SBIS. The contract was terminated.

The construction was then suspended indefinitely.

…E20m more needed

MBABANE- Taxpayers will have to cough outover E20 million for the completion of the ruined Swaziland Broadcasting and Information Services (SBIS) building.

Construction companies who have shown interest in completing the structure that was left in shambles by Liqoqo man Nhlonipho Dlamini’s company are all looking for over E20 million to do the job. According to an opening schedule of the tender for the completion of the structure, the cheapest is asking for E21 million while most of them are between E28 million and E30 million.

Nine companies who are registered with the Ministry Public Works and Transport showed interest in completing the building.

SBIS Director Percy Simelane, in an interview with our sister newspaper, the Times mentioned that the construction would resume in January next year.
