BUHLENI – A 29-year-old woman is fighting for her life at Mkhuzweni Health Centre after she was forced to drink weevil tablets by her husband.

The ruthless husband later committed suicide after suspecting that he had killed his wife, who had just ended their relationship. She was throttled for three hours, with weevil tablets inserted in her mouth and further forced to drink a deadly concoction, but she survived.

Her sin was just telling her husband that she no longer loved him.

However, the husband, after suspecting that she had killed his ‘ex-wife,’ proceeded with his suicidal tricks and killed himself.

Hanged

The deceased, Mbongeni Mnisi, hanged himself in the same room where he had forced his wife to commit suicide.

This happened a few hours after the wife escaped from his clutches.

Chamkile Malindza is now recuperating in hospital.

"That morning, I told him that I no longer loved him and was packing my things and going back home," narrated Malinga in her hospital bed yesterday.

"He told me that he could not afford to lose me and that he would rather die than not be with me. However, I insisted and packed my clothes as I wanted to leave him. He then grabbed my hand and throttled me. All this time he was telling me that today (Friday) was the end of our lives," said the obviously sad Malindza.

She explained that at some point she was able to overcome her abusive husband during the scuffle.

"Each time he inserted a weevil tablet, I would spit it back at him, a thing which eventually annoyed him. He then inserted a pack of the deadly pills into my mouth, while forcing me to swallow them," added Malindza, who had difficulty talking.

It was gathered that the deceased was a supervisor at Magoga Farm, where he was responsible for the King’s cattle.
