Another umdada worth E5 000 stolen

MBABANE - Umdada worth E5 000 was stolen at traditional regalia outlet, Ligomba LemaSwati on Thursday.
Umdada, regarded as one of the most expensive traditional regalias donned by warriors during Incwala, is made from leopard’s skin. It is only donned during the national Incwala ceremony.
Previously a warrior was nabbed after stealing His Majesty’s King Mswati III’s umdada and sold it to African Alliance SA Director and King’s Financial Advisor Sthofeni Ginindza, but this time around it has not been the case because the item was stolen at the traditional regalia shop Ligomba LemaSwati, located at the Swazi Plaza.
When reached for comment the company’s Director, Kinos Simba, confirmed the theft of the valuable item.
"I was outside attending to the Minister of Education Wilson Ntshangase and Waqunga Dlamini. The umdada was on top of a drum outside. We then went inside but did not spend much time but when I returned from inside I discovered that it had been stolen," he said.
Simba confirmed the value of the umdada to be in the region of E5 000.
When reached for comment, Police Public Relations Officer Superintendent Vusi Masuku confirmed that the matter had been reported to the Mbabane police and were handling the investigations.
"We would like to appeal to all those who could have knowledge on the theft to report to the nearest police station and whosoever has purchased such should report to the police so that the traditional regalia can be taken to its rightful owners," he said.
