TWO ARRESTED FOR THEFT OF E42 500 TOMBSTONE FROM GRAVE
MBABANE – In what is a rare occurrence, two men from Ngculwini have been arrested and charged for the theft of an African red tombstone valued at E42 500.
According to the charge sheet presented before Mbabane Senior Magistrate Thembela Simelane, the two accused persons, are said to have committed the offence last month (June) at a graveyard in Ezulwini next to Buka. They were slapped with two counts, that of theft along with violating a grave.

The pair, Sandile Thembinkosi Dlamini and Mangaliso Elshadai Dlamini, were each granted E5 000 bail. “The accused persons are charged with offence of theft in that during the month of June, 2024 at or near Ezulwini, in the district of Hhohho, the said accused persons, acting jointly in the furtherance of a common purpose did wrongfully, unlawfully and intentionally steal an African red tombstone valued at E42 500, the property of or in the lawful possession of Sydney Ajusa and did thereby commit the said offence.” In the second count, they were charged with the offence of violating a grave in that upon or during the same month while at Ezulwini cemetery, the accused persons acting jointly in the furtherance of a common purpose did wrongfully, unlawfully and intentionally disturb a human grave by injuring portions of the grave of the late Ivy Louise Gamedze.
Trial
This matter is expected to go for trial at the High Court in the first week of August (next month). Contacted for comment, the late Gamedze’s family asked not to say anything pending finalisation of the matter in court. Notably is that the family members were present in court yesterday to follow the proceedings of this matter which attracted a number of people as they were spotted inside the courtroom.
