TAIPEI, TAIWAN – His Majesty the King came out victorious in a shrimp fishing expedition held in Zhishan, hosted by Republic of China (Taiwan) President-elect Lai Ching-te, ahead of his inauguration ceremony today.

President-elect Lai prepared an easy outing with the King and other leaders, where they went fishing, in what is one of the popular sports in Taiwan. For his prowess, President-elect Lai handed His Majesty the King a trophy to remind him of his exploits while visiting Taipei ahead of the inauguration ceremony. This was the first meeting of the King with President-elect Lai, who takes over the reigns from outgoing President Tsai Ing-wen, who became Taiwans first female president. In fact, the morning meeting between the King and President-elect Lai preceded an evening welcome banquet prepared by outgoing President Tsai.

Meanwhile, the president-elect had a welcome reception for his guests who came from all around the world; the USA, UK, Eswatini, which is the only African country still having diplomatic relations with Taiwan. But there were also delegates from Somaliland and many from the Pacific, who still have diplomatic relations with Taiwan.
