2 DEAD, 3 INJURED AFTER TRUCK ACCIDENT

MBABANE – Yet another accident involving a truck has claimed lives on the country’s road.

In the latest incident, which is said to have occurred yesterday just after 6pm, a man who was driving a truck lost control of it along the new Mangwaneni Road in Manzini. Confirming was Deputy Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Assistant Superintendent Nosipho Mnguni, who said a truck believed to be from Build It was involved in the accident when its driver lost control and it ended up shifting off from its lane and ended up landing on the crossroads.

Critical

Mnguni said the driver died on the spot and that one passenger was rushed to hospital and was in critical condition at the time of confirmation, just before 8pm yesterday. Another passenger, believed to be a security guard was also involved in the accident and reportedly died while he was being rushed to hospital. As if that was not enough, two female pedestrians who were walking along the highway from the Moneni direction were not spared, as when the truck hit a concrete wall while it was rolling, it hit them. The two pedestrians are said to have tried to avoid being hit by the rolling truck but were not successful as it hit them, resulting to them suffering minor injuries. Even though their injuries were not serious, the pedestrians were said to have been rushed to the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) Hospital at the time of compiling this report.

Killed

The accident comes just four days after another one occurred at Esakeni, under Hlatikhulu, where four people lost their lives and seven injured. It was reported that the truck driver, who was transporting crush stones from Hlatikhulu to Nhlangano town lost control of the vehicle as he was driving down a slope. The truck then crashed into a shop and the people inside were crushed by the rubble and six of them had to be rushed to Hlatikhulu Government Hospital.
