MANZINI - Former South Africa President Jacob Zuma’s family now ‘has a home’ in the Kingdom of Eswatini.

This follows the fact that one of the former South Africa president’s sons, who got married to a member of the royal family, has been allocated land at Nkonga, Mafutseni Chiefdom, under Senator Chief Ngalokhulu Mabuza. Over the weekend, the former president visited Nkonga to see the land which had been allocated to his son, which had already been developed into a home. According to a source close to the matter, the land has already been fenced and there is a one-room house and a cattle byre.

Celebration

The source said the former president, who recently graced the celebration of the 51st Army Day at the Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF) held at its Headquarters at Nokwane on Friday, was welcomed by the Mafutseni chief and the inner council members. He added that Mafutseni Member of Parliament (MP) and other members of the Mabuza family were also present. He said the chief welcomed the former South Africa president, who is the leader of the newly-established uMkhonto weSizwe (political party) with a cow as a gift (siphandla). The source said after seeing his son’s home, Zuma was shown the fields and grazing land.

Confirmed

These developments were confirmed by both the chief and Indvuna (headman) Mamilela Maphosa. The headman said indeed the former South Africa president came to Mafutseni to see his son’s home. He said Zuma’s son got the land through labadzala, as she married a princess. He said labadzala asked the royal kraal to allocate land to the in-laws of the royal family as he had a desire to have a home in the Kingdom of Eswatini. He said Zuma’s son was allocated the land about a year ago. On the same note, the leader of Mafutseni Chiefdom, Senator Chief Ngalokhulu, said the former president came to see his son’s home and confirmed that he presented him with a cow when he welcomed him.

It is worth noting that in 2017, Zuma’s son, Mxolisi, paid 120 cattle as lobola for Princess Ziyanda. Again, it is worth highlighting that hardly 48 hours before the former South Africa president graced the 51st Army Day, his successor President Cyril Ramaphosa was also in the country and he held private meetings with the Queen Mother and His Majesty King Mswati III.
