MATSETSA – Former Eswatini TV Corporate Affairs’ Manager Mncedisi Mayisela has passed away after committing suicide at his parental home in Matsetsa (Lubombo Region).

Reports of Mayisela’s demise started circulating yesterday morning before the incident was confirmed by Deputy Police Information and Communications Officer Assistant Superintendent Nosipho Mnguni. “Yes, I can confirm that a 48-year-old man was found hanging from a tree at Matsetsa,” Mnguni briefly stated.

When the Eswatini News team paid a visit to Mayisela’s parental home yesterday, the mood indeed was sombre as mourners were seen coming to pass their condolences to his distraught family. His father politely requested not to comment on his son’s death pending a meeting with other family members.

Death

At the time of his death, Mayisela was employed as Human Resource Manager at Micro-Projects under the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development where he had been working for less than two years before his death.
It has been reliably gathered that Mayisela who worked at Eswatini TV for many years, was involved in a car accident while driving his employer’s car to Matsetsa. Sources are claiming that the vehicle he was driving hit a cow, but he is said to have escaped unhurt as he allegedly drove the vehicle home after the accident.

“When he got home, he found that the door to his house was locked. He went to buy time with a couple of friends socialising nearby before returning home.

Troubled

He  seemed to be visibly troubled by something, but nobody had anticipated that it would reach a point where he would decide to take his life,” a close relative, who asked to remain anonymous, said. Adding, the relative alleged that an initial attempt by Mayisela to take his own life was timeously stopped by his father after he was allegedly found with the rope around his neck while standing on a chair below a tree.

“His father got to him just in time to stop him from kicking away the chair. Just when everybody thought things were normal, he was found hanging from the tree later on. It seems he had made up his mind to commit suicide,” the relative added. A neighbour described Mayisela as a man who freely mingled with people from his area and made a lot of friends.

“Mncedisi was a very nice person. People loved him because he was always down-to-earth despite his success in life. He never forgot his roots despite that he spent most of his time in Mbabane where he was working,” the neighbour said.

Comments

Micro-Projects’ Director Sibusiso Mbingo was contacted, but he referred comments on this matter to Economic Planning Ministry’s Principal Secretary (PS) Thabsile Mlangeni. However, the PS could not be immediately reached for comment at the time of compiling this report last night.

Before resigning from Eswatini TV, Mayisela applied twice for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), but was twice declined appointment under unclear reasons. This is despite that the consultants engaged to handle the recruitment exercise, had scored him the highest points in the interviewing process. In the second recruitment exercise conducted by SAMKHO, Mayisela and Kenneth Maziya scored high, as they both attained 83.3 per cent.
