MANZINI – Tisuka TakaNgwane General Manager Reverend Nicholas Nyawo and long-serving leader at the Evangelical Church has passed on after an illness.

The man of the cloth, who had served in various leadership positions at the Evangelical Church, passed away on Tuesday afternoon at Milpark Hospital in the neighbouring Republic of South Africa, where he was admitted.
The sad news was confirmed by his brother Nkosinathi, who was found at his home at Fairview in Manzini, which was crammed by mourners, yesterday afternoon.

He said so far, there was nothing much they could say as a family, because they were still waiting for family members who resided in South Africa. However, he highlighted that the reverend had been sick for a while and was survived by his wife and three children - two boys and a girl.

Ministry

Meanwhile, Evangelical Church International Chairperson Reverend Jabulani Msane, said as a church they did not know where to start describing who Reverend Nyawo was in the ministry. He said Nyawo served as a pastor in at least three churches; Bethel, Mhlosheni and Matsapha, the latter being where he was based until he answered the call of the Lord. He said while leading the Matsapha Evangelical Church, he founded and established at least five churches in the Manzini Region, one of which was at Thulwane, under the Mafutseni Constituency.

Again, he said Reverend Nyawo once occupied the position of National Chairperson of the Evangelical Church. Msane added that he was also the International Chairperson of the Evangelical Church for a long time. By international, he clarified that he was the leader of all the Evangelical Churches, including those which were outside the borders of the country, like South Africa, Mozambique and Lesotho.

Furthermore, he said Nyawo served as the president of the Eswatini Conference of Churches and was one of the oldest pastors at the church. As such, he said the church was looking up to him for guidance and advice, among other things. On another note, Reverend Msane said through his work, Nyawo left countless spiritual sons and daughters who would continue where he left off.

“He was a role model for many, a polite and humble man of God,” Reverend Msane added. He also highlighted that when he was in a leadership position, Nyawo was exemplary. He added that even when he was an ordinary church member, he supported those in leadership positions.

Nyawo is the second influential church leader to pass on this year. Early this year, mid-January, the Christian fraternity lost one of its leaders, Reverend Bhekindlela Magongo, who was the Chairperson of the Council of Swaziland Churches. He died in a car accident which took place at Mahhala, along the Manzini/Mbabane MR Public Road.
