MANZINI – A senior police officer at Sidvokodvo Police Station collapsed and died on Thursday night.

The senior police officer is said to have collapsed while at her Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) allocated house. The officer, who is known to this publication, but will not be named for now as her immediate family could not be sourced for comment at the time of compiling this report, held the position of inspector. She was promoted from sergeant to inspector on December 1, 2023. Sources claimed that the officer had taken annual leave when she collapsed and died.  The sources suspected that her demise could have been a result of a cardiac arrest as she was not sickly. They claimed that the extreme heat in the past week could also have contributed to her demise.

The senior officer was said to have made history within the police service as she was promoted to a position that had been dominated by males for the longest period of time. Deputy Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Assistant Superintendent Nosipho Mnguni acknowledged that the senior officer had passed on. However, Mnguni said she could not comment much on her demise as it had to be done by her family. Her demise while in office is subsequent to that of deceased National Commissioner (NATCOM) of Police, William Tsitsibala Dlamini, who also collapsed and died while enroute to the country from a summit in Angola.

He died at OR Tambo International Airport in the Republic of South Africa (SA) on October 7, 2023. Dlamini collapsed on arrival at the airport and was certified dead after inspection by medical practitioners. Also, another senior police officer who died while still in office was former Manzini Police Station Commander Dumisani Dube. He was found dead with a gunshot wound in his head on February 26, 2023.
