LOBAMBA – Mbabane East Member of Parliament Welcome Dlamini wants to know if someone is protecting the alleged culprit implicated in the disappearance of E340 million invested in Ecsponent Eswatini.

Dlamini posed the question while making his submissions on the debate of the budget speech in Parliament yesterday, challenging the Minister of Finance, Neal Rijkenberg, to channel all his energy into unearthing what transpired at Ecsponent.

The legislator submitted that it was such a shame to see the alleged implicated individuals visiting Eswatini at the height of the investigation into the loss of the investments belonging to emaSwati. He wanted to know the person who was actually protecting the individual and bringing him/her into the country at a time when an investigation into the loss of the Ecsponent investments was ongoing.

Corruption

He quoted the minister’s speech, which depicts that one of the giants to be slayed was corruption and in the same speech he also spoke about the issue of Ecsponent and the Financial Services Regulatory Authority. “Minister, how far have you gone in unearthing what transpired at Ecsponent? It smells of corruption, money laundering and all the ills one can think of. People spoke seriously about this issue; they have lost their monies through this and some have died because of it.

The person who brought this individual into the country hates emaSwati the most,” he said. Dlamini said if the minister was serious about taking on this dragon in the form of corruption, this was one area that he should dedicate all his energy into and get to the bottom of it. Just recently, the Investors Relations Committee (IRC) at Ecsponent had a press briefing where they requested those implicated in the Ecsponent saga to approach the courts and prove their innocence.
