PUPIL KILLED, 38 RUSHED TO HOSPITAL AFTER 2 KOMBIS CRASH
NHLANGANO – One pupil died on the spot while 38 others were rushed to hospital after the kombis they were on board were involved in an accident.
The accident happened at an area called Power, just after Ngwane Teachers Training College, on the route to Makhosini from Nhlangano, in the Shiselweni Region. Both the kombis were headed towards the same direction. It was gathered from sources at the scene, that the white kombi that was behind the Quantum developed mechanical faults and hit the Quantum from behind.
It was said that both kombi drivers lost control of the vehicles, which then landed on the side of the road; with the white kombi rolling with the passengers on board. Also, it was gathered that the driver of the white kombi was seriously injured and is among those who were rushed to Hlatikhulu Government Hospital. After the accident, motorists rushed to the scene to help retrieve the pupils. It was gathered that some of the pupils were trapped inside, but they were eventually retrieved and rushed to hospital.
Critical
At least 11 of the pupils were said to be in a critical condition, while the others were treated and discharged. In hospital yesterday, some parents arrived shortly after the accident and were seen in queues with their children. Some were spotted standing outside the emergency room as the passages were packed and they were requested to wait for the healthcare workers to be able to move around. Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the accident and that one person had died.
