NHLANGANO – Nsalitje Primary School head teacher was discovered dead after he was allegedly kidnapped by unknown people.

The incident happened around A1, an area under Matsanjeni South, in the Shiselweni Region. It was said that the deceased Head teacher, Sikelela Mkhweli, left the school on Monday, at around 11am, on his way to a meeting. Community sources said he never made it to the meeting, but was later discovered dead. Suspicions are that he might have given a lift to strangers along the way to the main road, as he was travelling alone when he left the school. According to his elder brother Sandile Mkhweli, he last spoke to the deceased at around 11:38am, as he was headed to the meeting. He said they started getting suspicious after he did not return home and his phone was not available on local networks. It was said the silence was strange because the deceased usually communicated his moves. The deceased’s brother said he then contacted his brother’s wife, who was also worried about his whereabouts.

Convinced

It was established that at first, he was believed to have crossed the border to neighbouring South Africa, but at around 9pm, they were convinced this was not the case, because the border had closed by then. Several calls were made to different family members, who were asked if they had information about his whereabouts but no one knew where he was. It was said that the deceased stayed at Hluthi, with his wife, and would travel to his workplace and back on a daily basis. “Even the teachers were called and they all confirmed to have seen him when he left for the meeting at around 11am on Monday,” narrated the source. It was gathered that some of the border post police officers shared with one of the people who were searching for the late head teacher that there was a man who was found dead, though they were not certain it was him.

It was gathered that the head teacher was killed within the boundaries of a farm called Mpandisane. According to reliable sources, a security guard there heard the noise coming from a man shouting for help ‘inyandzaleyo’ but was scared to get to the scene as he heard people talking. It was said that the security guard heard voices saying ‘ugangelani’, while another was constantly apologising and shouting ‘inyandzaleyo’.

Stumbled

Sources revealed that after sometime, the guard went to the scene, where the noise was coming from, and found a shoe. He then followed a trail and stumbled upon the lifeless body of the head teacher. He then raised the alarm to the police. It was said that the deceased was found with a wound on the head and had his hands tied at his back. The deceased’s car is currently missing.  His brother said he was taken by the police to the scene and he saw his brother’s lifeless body from a distance as he had been instructed not to touch it. “At this point, I wish someone can erase the images of what I saw from my memory, he said. Shiselweni Regional Education Officer Siboniso Gumbi said they received the information but were not going to comment about it, as it was not confirmed by the family. He said the community went to their offices to report the incident, adding that they were going to address it after they had been informed by the family.  Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed that a 46-year-old man was found dead and his car and is still missing. She requested members of the public to assist in locating the car and with information leading to the death of the man.
