MANZINI – Shocking!

This is how Samson Ginindza, who spoke as an uncle to the deceased, described the incident in which five women were shot, allegedly by Vusi Mncina, who is said to have been a boyfriend to one of the deceased women. Of the five women who were shot, one, Thuli Mkhwanazi, survived while Nonhlanhla Thwala, Lungile Dungy Shongwe, Fikile Shongwe and Cynthia Shongwe died.

The five women were shot after a pool party, which was held at Cynthia’s home in Ezulwini, around Goje Township. The women were found crammed in a pantry, possibly where they had sought refuge in an attempt to shield themselves from the assailant. The shooting of the four women left the country in shock and the news spread quickly, first in social media, where allegations that will not be repeated were made.

It has since been gathered that Vusi Mncina, who was the boyfriend to Cynthia allegedly shot the women and then went to report the incident at the police station. He was arrested and has already appeared before a magistrate at Lobamba.

Shocked

Ginindza, was one of the main speakers and described how the incident had shocked the family and even the country in general. He was speaking during the memorial service of sisters Lungile and Fikile. The memorial service was held at the Manzini Cathedral. The service was attended by family and friends.

The uncle did not hide his anger when describing how the women were murdered. Ginindza did not only condemn the killing of the four women, but also generally others who had died. He wondered how, even if there was a dispute, why would someone kill another in that manner? He described the incident as shocking and painful for the family.
Ginindza condemned gender-based violence (GBV) in the country and said it should be condemned, and said the media should not justify the act. The uncle expressed concern that by reporting in speculatively, the media justified the killings, as they gave alleged killers reasons. He expressed anger that there had been reports that the women were killed for reportedly kissing another man. “If she was kissing someone else, where was the person she was kissing?” he asked rhetorically.

Angry

He said: “the killing of our children must come to an end, by fire of force.” As he made the statement, the tone of his voice change and he sounded angry about it and said that something should be done to end this. During the memorial service, both women were described as people with strong determination. Lungile was described as a hard worker, while Fikile was referred to as someone who was determined, even when things were hard, despite times when she was unemployed. Lungile was employed at Afrox.

Noteworthy, the memorial of Cynthia, who was a cousin to Lungile and Fikile, was held in Ezulwini yesterday at around 3pm. In a notice that was submitted by her relatives, it was mentioned that her body would be cremated today, at Dups Manzini, and the time was set at 9am. Thulile Thwala’s memorial will be held today at around 11am, at the Alliance Church (Sandla) in Mbabane. Her funeral will be held at Mbuluzi area (Mahebedla tomorrow morning.
