NHLANGANO – Vicious pit bulls mauled 16 livestock belonging to philanthropist, Tsabile Simelane, famously known as ‘Gogo Nde’, at KaZenzile, outside Hlatikhulu.

The incident happened on Sunday, around 3am. It was gathered that the dogs went into Simelane’s premises, where they found the livestock inside the kraal. Some of the livestock that was killed included goats and sheep. According to Simelane, she woke up when she heard noise, only to find that her livestock was under attack. She shared that this was not the first time that the dogs attacked livestock as other community members were also affected by same.

According to Simelane, the dogs were causing unnecessary conflicts among community members, because they were not being kept on the leash. She further shared that she wanted her livestock back and not money as compensation. She said each sheep would cost about E4 000, adding that some had twin lambs, which were killed. Simelane said she kept some of the dead livestock in her refrigerator as evidence. “I wish to be given back my livestock and not money,” she said. Simelane shared that she then reported the incident to the police, who came to her place and investigated. She said personnel from vet also came through, adding that they further went to see the dogs which were found with bloodstains.

A comment could not be sought from the dogs owner as his phone was not available on local networks. It was gathered that he was out of the country and only people looking after his home were at the homestead when the incident happened. Deputy Police Information and Communications Officer Inspector Nosipho Mnguni, confirmed the incident. She said police were still investigating the matter.
