LOBAMBA – Acts of murder, intentions to overthrow the current regime have made God regret why he created mankind.

This was an assertion made by Minister of Housing and Urban Development Prince Simelane during the national prayer held at the Lobamba National Church yesterday. The prayer was organised by the country’s three church bodies which are the League of African Churches, Swaziland Council of Churches and Eswatini Conference of Churches. The prince, who represented His Majesty King Mswati III, began his speech by saying he felt compelled to remind congregants about painful words God said after having witnessed evil deeds committed by mankind.

He said in Genesis 6 verse 5, God made it known that he regretted creating mankind due to a variety of wrongdoings by people. “This saying by God is not far-fetched from what we see in the Kingdom of Eswatini. In the past few weeks, we have seen in newspapers how a woman was brutally murdered in Nhlangano. We have also read reports of a boy who had his throat slit open and thereafter burnt with petrol. There was also a young man murdered in Malkerns and had his throat slit open as well. Because of such things, God regrets creating mankind,” the ever jolly prince said.

He said it was painful to hear reports of men killing their wives, spouses or children and drug dealers doing same to each other week in, and week out. He said yesterday’s gathering was aimed at praying for the upcoming elections and said in other countries there had been incidents where candidates were murdered on their way to campaign. The prince said now that His Majesty King Mswati III has declared that the elections will take place in the coming weeks, it was the duty of every liSwati to make sure that the exercise was peaceful and fair, and that there was no bloodshed. He then said that any individual who prevents other citizens from partaking in the elections should not think that he or she was fighting His Majesty King Mswati III, but that they were challenging God himself. “His Majesty the King was ordained by God. We have people who pray to God but they are also planning to overthrow the current regime and the government. It is such people who make God regret why he created mankind,” he said and the congregants screamed and ululated in agreement.

The prince then encouraged all emaSwati to do an introspection and ask themselves if, through their evil deeds, they were not making God regret why he created mankind. The event itself was a success despite starting later than the anticipated time. It was meant to start at 10am, but things ended up taking shape way after 11am. At first, the marquee prepared for the congregants had many empty chairs but they were filled as the service progressed. Different church leaders were given the podium to either share the word of God or simply lead the congregation in prayer. The church leaders focused their sermons on praying for peaceful elections and electing individuals who will work for the development of the country instead of their empty stomachs.

Joining the congregants at the event were members of the royal family, senior government officials and Cabinet ministers. Esteemed guests included outgoing Senate President Pastor Lindiwe Dlamini, Liqoqo Chairman Paul Dlamini and Lubombo Regional Administrator (RA) Themba Msibi. When summarising the sermons, Bishop Robert Kasaro said the service was a sign that a big shift was about to happen in the country. He said it was possible to witness a shift in one day as long as the country’s citizens came together in prayer. “We came here to get an answer and the shift is about to happen today. This is a historic moment because we have all decided that we can conquer if we come together in prayer as he church. I declare that God will listen to us,” Kasaro said.

He led the congregants in singing the song titled ‘Kanye nawe nkosi yami’, saying God was ready to lead emaSwati to a restoration of peace and prosperity. Meanwhile, when delivering the vote of thanks, Arch Dicon Bhekindlela Magongo reminded the congregants that there was no mention of a president in the Bible. He did not elaborate but simply said, “The Bible only talks about the anointing of kings. We will discuss this some other day in order to understand why,” he said.
